Joanna lynne smith

M.ed., ms, lac, ncc, e-ryt 500

licensed therapist | yoga + meditation instructor | energy worker

Joanna was initially drawn to yoga as an alternative to gymnastics and dance, but quickly fell in love with its philosophies and holistic, spiritual nature.  Joanna holds master’s degrees both in education and clinical mental health counseling, is a Reiki Level-2 practitioner, and is grateful for the opportunity to fuse her passion for teaching with her love of yoga.

She is a licensed associate level therapist working at an inpatient facility with trauma, addiction, and sex therapy using a variety of modalities including EMDR, IFS, somatic experiencing, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and acceptance and commitment therapy. In private practice, Joanna offers movement based and somatic modalities, nervous system regulation coaching, and executive coaching. Her coaching practice fuses somatic embodiment of emotions with strengths-based approaches to vision setting and goal attunement.

Joanna has been teaching yoga in and around Tucson for a decade, and continued to study beyond her 500-hours of yoga teacher training, focusing extensively on yin yoga, restorative yoga, and yoga nidra.

Joanna believes yoga is for everybody, regardless of their stage in life or personal yoga practice. She teaches from the heart, and her multi-level classes focus on grace, play, and moving meditation. Beyond the physical asana practices, she believes fully in the wisdom and teachings of yoga, and her inspiring classes are interwoven with yoga theory.

Joanna is a skilled teacher in yin yoga, hot yoga, alignment-focused vinyasa flow yoga, hatha flow yoga, hatha yoga, restorative yoga, restorative yin yoga, acro yoga, introductory contortion, meditation, and yoga nidra. A natural and mindful leader, she is also passionate about leading workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings.

Joanna is trained in the movement arts of partner acrobatics, aerial silks, dance, and performance art. She has over twenty years of combined training in various performance arts, and continues to train with elite athletes and coaches around the United States. Joanna performed with troupes in and around the Tucson area, and is a founding member of Les Femmes Merveilleuses.
