Somatic Interventions for Nervous System Healing
Somatic interventions are body-based therapeutic practices that help individuals regulate their nervous system, manage stress responses, and reconnect with a sense of safety and calm. These approaches are especially supportive for those navigating the effects of chronic stress or trauma.
Using a “bottom-up” approach, somatic work begins with the body—focusing on sensation, movement, and present-moment experience—rather than starting with thoughts or storytelling. This helps address the physiological roots of anxiety, overwhelm, or shutdown, allowing for deeper healing and integration.
Through this work, you can build resilience and expand your capacity to stay present with challenging emotions and sensations. Over time, this fosters a greater sense of stability, empowerment, and ease in daily life.
Common somatic practices may include:
Grounding exercises to reconnect with your body and environment in the present moment
Breathwork and pranayama to regulate the nervous system and shift internal states
Somatic breathwork to release stored tension and support emotional processing
Reiki to encourage energetic balance and relaxation
By strengthening the connection between mind and body, somatic interventions create meaningful, sustainable change. This work supports you not just in feeling better, but in living with more presence, resilience, and embodied awareness.

how is coaching different than therapy?
Psychotherapy often supports those dealing with challenge, trauma, pain or loss. Psychotherapy is licensed and regulated mental health service provided by mental health professionals who have completed graduate training programs in counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, and/or clinical psychology. Due to professional licensing requirements, therapists can only provide individual, relationship and group therapy services to clients located in the state(s) in which they are licensed.
*If you are interested in psychotherapy with Joanna and are an Arizona resident, stay tuned.
